Seven ways we configure how you see — and the honest reasons we might recommend none of them.

We don't start with Bronze, Silver or Gold. A package decides the tier, the coating bundle and the design before anyone has asked how you live. A STOTTS. configuration starts the other way round: with the distances you actually use, the habits you told us about, your frame and how you adapt — and only then names the lens family that fits, with only the components your day has earned.

Two of the honest answers are not configurations at all: a check before any lens, or keeping what you have. Both are real answers, and both are on this page.

A menu, or a configuration

A lens package decides things before anyone has asked how you live.

What a package decides

  • A price tierBronze, Silver, Gold — chosen from a card, usually before your day has been described.
  • A coating bundleWhatever comes with the tier, whether or not you gave a reason for it.
  • A design by bandStandard, better, best — the tier sets the design, not your distances.
  • Default fitting valuesThe design’s defaults for wrap, tilt and vertex, unless someone measures.

What a STOTTS. configuration decides

  • Your distancesThe furthest and nearest points you actually use — desk, screens, the room, the road — measured, not assumed.
  • Your wearing positionHow the frame sits: wrap angle, pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance — measured in practice where the design accepts it.
  • A light layer with a reasonA coating, reactive lens or sun option only for something you told us — never added to raise the price.
  • One pair or twoA wardrobe decision made with you: your everyday pair first, a task pair only where it would genuinely do a job better.
  • Fitting and reviewFrame dimensions, fitting heights and corridor for the design, then a review after you collect.

Excellent general vision from the pair you reach for most.

Excellent general vision from the pair you reach for most — an everyday design fitted individually around the whole day rather than any one part of it. It is also where "one lens instead of two" lives for reading-glasses wearers, where a coating on the main pair lives, and where the honest answer can be "we might change very little".

It won't: First-varifocal variants: some people genuinely prefer separate pairs — we would not push you into one lens.

For days that ask a lot of your eyes at several distances.

For days that ask a lot of your eyes at several distances — the same everyday progressive design, configured around every distance you use, your frame and how you adapt. Precision describes what STOTTS measures and discusses; it is never a price tier and never a Nikon tier.

It won't: Which design is right is a dispensing decision — the difference between designs depends on your prescription, current lens, measurements and adaptation history. We name the family, not the final lens.

STOTTS. Screen

For screen- and desk-heavy days.

For screen- and desk-heavy days — a lens configured around your working distances rather than borrowed from an everyday lens: the desk, the screens, the people across it and, where the day spans it, the room.

It won't: Desk and room variants (E-Life Pro): not for driving — the guide states "Lens design not suitable for driving". It would live at your desk.

For sustained, head-down close work.

For sustained, head-down close work — crafts, fine detail, DIY, long sessions at one distance — a lens set for the task rather than reading through the bottom of an everyday lens.

It won't: Not for driving or walking about — it is a task pair.

STOTTS. Drive

For people who drive a lot, and after dark.

For people who drive a lot, and after dark — glare managed by the coating, on the pair you actually drive in, or on a dedicated driving pair when the wardrobe conversation says one is worth it. Drive is a light-layer configuration: the lens design underneath is whatever your everyday configuration is.

It won't: A coating cannot fix distance clarity — if road signs are the issue, that is a prescription check first.

STOTTS. Light

For bright, changing and outdoor light.

For bright, changing and outdoor light — everyday lenses that react to light, or prescription sun, chosen for the light you actually live in.

It won't: Reactive that darkens in the car (XTRActive): not fully clear indoors — the guide describes it as "clear indoors with a hint of tint" — which is worth weighing against evening driving.

For regular sport with a genuine visual demand.

For regular sport with a genuine visual demand — golf, cycling, running, racquet sports, shooting — a lens designed for the curve of a sports frame, with a stable view to the edge, and as many visual zones as your sport actually asks for.

It won't: A wrap sports frame is not an everyday or office pair.

How a configuration is assembled.

A configuration is not chosen from a card. It is put together in practice, in this order, whichever lens family it ends up naming — and the honest outcome at any step can be that nothing needs to change.

    The most appropriate lens type, working distances, light layer and pair strategy for you — assembled around your day, not picked from a tier, and not automatically the most expensive one.

    Measure

    The position of your eyes, how the frame sits on your face, your working distances and the exact measurements that lens design needs.

    Review

    Fit, comfort, adaptation and real-life performance after you collect them — and we adjust or put things right if needed.

When nothing you told us earns a change: your current set-up, kept, with what is working said out loud. That is a real answer, not a soft one.

We would rather tell you that than sell you a configuration.

First — a check, not a configuration

Assessment first

When the honest answer is a check before any lens: a reported change in vision, distance clarity on the road, someone who wears nothing yet, an area we can see but cannot size, or several answers you were not sure about.

An eye examination before any configuration.

We do not suggest a filter coating simply because you use screens. A coating is chosen for a reason you gave us — never added by default.

Is this a price list?

No. There are no prices and no tiers on this page. A configuration is what we measure, decide and check in practice around a lens; what a pair costs is discussed in practice once the design, the frame and the one-pair-or-two decision are settled with you.

Do you only use Nikon?

The seven configurations on this page are built on Nikon Lenswear technology — each names a Nikon family, never a tier. Which design is right for your prescription, your frame and your measurements is a dispensing decision made with you in practice.

Are Nikon lenses ‘exclusive’ to STOTTS.?

No. Nikon Lenswear supplies opticians across the UK; the configuration is what is ours.

What if I need nothing?

Then that is the answer. When nothing you told us earns a change: your current set-up, kept, with what is working said out loud. That is a real answer, not a soft one. We would rather tell you that than sell you a configuration.
