Advanced Eye Health Assessment

See deeper into your eye health.

Advanced imaging — including OCT and Optomap — looks far beyond a standard eye test, helping detect and monitor eye health conditions earlier, when there is most that can be done.

Beyond the standard eye test

A standard examination shows the surface. We look beneath it.

Many eye health conditions develop quietly, with no early symptoms. Advanced imaging lets us see the structures at the back of your eye in remarkable detail — and compare them precisely over time, so subtle change is spotted early.

The technology

OCT and Optomap, working together.

OCT scans the layers beneath your retina in cross-section; Optomap captures an ultra-widefield photograph of a large area of the back of the eye. Together they give a far more complete picture of your eye health than a standard examination alone — comfortably, and in most cases without drops.

What it helps detect

Catching change before you notice it.

Advanced imaging helps us identify and monitor a range of conditions — often before they affect your sight.

Glaucoma

Subtle changes to the optic nerve, often before you notice any difference in your vision.

Macular degeneration

Early signs at the macula — the part of the retina responsible for your central, detailed vision.

Diabetic changes

Damage to the tiny blood vessels at the back of the eye, important to catch early.

Retinal health

Tears, thinning or other peripheral changes that a standard view can miss entirely.

How it works

Two ways of seeing more.

OCT imaging

A non-invasive scan that captures a detailed, cross-sectional view of the layers beneath the surface of your retina — far more than a standard examination can show, and ideal for spotting and tracking change over time.

Optomap retinal imaging

An ultra-widefield photograph of the retina that lets us review a much larger area of the back of your eye in a single capture, comfortably and without the need for drops in most cases.

Why it matters

The earlier a change is found, the more there is we can do about it.

Advanced imaging gives you reassurance today and a precise baseline for the future — so your eye health is protected over a lifetime, not just checked once.

Advanced assessment FAQs

Good to know.

What is an OCT eye scan?

OCT (optical coherence tomography) is a quick, non-invasive scan that captures a detailed cross-section of the layers beneath the surface of your retina. It lets us see structures a standard eye test cannot, helping detect conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration early — and track any change precisely over time.

What is an Optomap eye test?

Optomap is an ultra-widefield retinal photograph that captures a large area of the back of the eye in a single image, comfortably and in most cases without dilating drops. It gives us a much broader view of your retinal health.

Do I need an advanced eye health assessment?

Advanced imaging is especially valuable if you are over 40, have a family history of eye disease, have diabetes or high blood pressure, are short-sighted, or simply want the most thorough picture of your eye health. We will advise whether it is right for you.

How much is an advanced eye test with OCT and Optomap?

The Studio Advanced Eye Health Assessment is £79, or NHS-funded consultation plus £40 where you are eligible for an NHS sight test. Our most comprehensive Signature Eye Health Assessment is £145. Studio members receive advanced imaging as part of their membership where clinically appropriate.

Is an OCT or Optomap scan uncomfortable?

Not at all. Both are quick, painless and non-invasive. In most cases neither requires dilating drops, so you can carry on with your day straight afterwards.

Does this replace a normal eye test?

It builds on it. An advanced assessment includes a full eye examination and adds detailed imaging on top — giving you and your optometrist a far more complete understanding of your eye health.
